摘要:随着全球经济一体化进程的不断发展,世界范围内的经济交流与合作也在不断增多。人们不可能跟自己的贸易伙伴一一亲自会面协商,同时我们又需要将贸易伙伴做出的各种承诺变成有据可查的文字记录。这时英语商务信函就成了取代亲自拜会的一种便宜而有效的沟通媒介。我们给贸易伙伴的每一封信都代表着自己所在公司的形象,显示着公司的水平和实力。一封礼貌有加、措辞得体的商务信函可以帮助一个公司建构起良好的商业形象,进而做成一笔笔好生意;反之,一封礼貌欠佳、用语不当的信函则会给一个公司带来负面的评价,使之弄砸了生意不说,还有可能毁了公司苦心经营的形象。可见,礼貌在商务信函中的作用不容忽视。本文通过大量实例的比较,论述英语商务信函应坚持的礼貌原则,归纳出当代商务英语信函中的礼貌表现。

abstract: with the development of the process of global economic integration, the worldwide economic cooperation and exchanges are increasing. it is impossible that people meet their trading partners face-to-face, and we often need to make all kinds of the commitments that our trading partners have made a written record that can be checked. now english business letters have become a cheap and effective medium of communication and replaced a personal visit. each letter that we write to our trading partners represents a company’s image and shows its strength. a courtesy and descent business letter can help to build a favorable business image for the company and do business better. however, a letter without courtesy can not only
lead to the failure of the business, but also destroy the image which the company has built up for years. therefore, the courtesy of business letters is very important. through systematic analysis and comparison of english business correspondences, this paper states that the principles of politeness in english business letters should be insisted. the author also presents several aspects of politeness in english business letters.

一、引言
21世纪是经济日益全球化的世纪,中国与世界各国的交往日益频繁,国际贸易事业发展迅猛。但随着科学技术的发展,国际间的贸易往来更多地使用传真与电子邮件来传递商务信函。因而,英语商务信函成为一种便宜而有效的沟通媒介。“一封好的商务信函,可以带来截然不同的效果,使你所要表达的意思焕然一新,给对方深刻的印象,使您的职业道路畅通无阻。一封好的商务信函有助于促进和发展同客户的关系,在促进达成新的业务方面起着积极的作用。”
二、英语商务信函的定义
英语商务信函是一种最常见的商业联系媒介,它是一种通过电脑或者打字机“书信”来完成的人际间交往。实际上商务信函是一种“推销”函,写信人总是在推销着什么,可能是一种产品、一项服务、一项专利、一个观念,甚至是推销自己或树立自己所在公司的形象等。
三、英语商务信函写作原则
1、礼貌原则(courteousness)
